BEN CURETON

MUSICIAN, DRUMMER, & INSTRUCTOR

MY SERVICES

My business is drums, whether it’s recording your next record, playing your next live show, or helping you to learn to play yourself, I have you covered.

  • My passion for recording drums runs deep. Performances are just a moment in time but a record is an imprint and I strive to give the music what it needs first and foremost. My recording history is heavily rooted in electronic/acoustic jazz fusion projects with saxophonist and composer Mike Benson. Beyond my work with Mike, I have recorded a number of rock, pop, punk and ska and reggae records with various artists such as Satori Loser, Melancholy Party, Stubborn All-Stars and more.

If you would like to here some of my work, head to my discography page. To get in touch with me about doing a session, reach out via the contact form further down the page.

  • I am currently booking dates for 2023 in the NJ/NYC/PA area. Whether you need a drummer for a tour, a series of gigs coming up or a last minute substitute, I can be your guy. As a musician, I have a background in jazz, rock, pop, electronic, Jamaicain ska and reggae, and much more! I have a knack for learning quickly and adapting to the situation to serve the music. A Little About BC

Hi, my name is Ben Cureton. For 20 plus years I have been hitting drums and cymbals in an orchestrated and sometimes un-orchestrated manner. For a little over 10 of those years I have been working professionally as a performer, private lessons teacher and session drummer. Music, drums and percussion have made up most of my life now and I love it.

In 2014 I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Music degree in music performance. There I honed a lot of my skills that I use to this day. I had the pleasure of playing in the orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, the percussion group, and more while I was there. I studied privately under two amazing teachers,  Dr. Todd Meehan for all things percussion and Dr. Ed Taylor for jazz drumming.

Before graduating Baylor, I knew that I wanted to put my entire focus into playing the drum set. The drum set has been my obsession and love since I was about the age of 12. At the age of 12, I desperately wanted to be Ringo Starr but the position was already filled so I spent the last 20 plus years figuring out how to be the best Ben Cureton. I am still working on this so bear with me.

After my time at Baylor, I went to Rutger University to get a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Aside from spending a small fortune in tuition, I learned a great deal from my two primary teachers, jazz drumming great Victor Lewis and acclaimed jazz saxophonist Ralph Bowen with whom I studied improv with in-depth. It was at Rutgers, I learned very hard, challenging and personal lessons that will stay with me forever.

In 2016, I graduated Rutgers and said goodbye to the academic world for the time being to begin the full-time artist struggle. Since then I have performed a lot, recorded a lot, taught a lot, and learned a whole lot more. It is indeed a struggle but it’s one that I wouldn’t trade for another.

Check out my Upcoming Shows page for my future dates, my Live page for some drumming videos, and my Discography page for some of my recorded work.

Thank you for visiting my website and seeing what I love to do. I hope to hear from you soon!
